Proprietor and artistic director Lisa Vasconcelos, inspired by her experiences with the Strathclair drama club, is one of westman's most experienced musical theatre performers, producers and directors.  An educator since 1994, she shared her passion for theatre arts at Neelin High School for more than a decade.  She left a thriving fine arts depart in June of 2005 after directing more than a dozen productions that established Neelin as 'the fine arts school' in Brandon.

At the helm of Mecca's Community Musicals, she has directed more than 20 productions, introducing children and adults of all ages and levels of experience to the joy of theatre.  Highlights of productions on the WMCA stage include:  Shrek, Mecca's First ALL-Kids Musical Alice in Wonderland, Annie, The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Ring of Fire, 9 to 5, A Christmas Carol, Seussical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Canada's amateur debut of Spamalot.

Since 2001, Mecca's programs have expanded to include community choir, drama & improv classes and a one-of-a-kind triple threat performance programs   We have traveled to New York and China to perform and entertained crowds in western Manitoba.

Mecca's team of experienced educators have witnessed the growth that occurs when children learn and grow in a positive, encouraging environment.  While their skills as performers improve, most importantly their confidence grows and that benefits them in all aspects of life… the classroom, in friendships and in life.  Each class focuses on child development and growth.  Every teacher on our staff if an educator or an educator in training.  All are experienced performers who bring what they have learned in class and on stage to their instruction.  They all have day jobs and 'work' at Mecca after schools and on weekends because they love kids and they want to share their love of performance with children.

All instructors are experienced educators with a passion for musical theatre, singing, and performing who LOVE KIDS!  They have appeared on stage in our community musicals and drama productions and bring that experience and passion to their classes.  They can’t wait to share their love for and knowledge of the performing arts with YOU!  It’s never too early — or too late — to start.  Learn, laugh, and grow with us!
