Performance Troupe:

Girls Aloud, Boys Only, Sound Dynamix, Charisma & Pride of Westman

Performance troupe classes run from Sept-June.  Regular classes run  from Sept-March with a workshop and tour schedule in April, May and June.    Students in this program work with vocal coaches, choreographers, directors to create a performance-ready concert that is shared at various events each spring.  In addition to regular classes, these students also take part in rehearsal retreats and workshops throughout the year.

in 2006, Mecca introduced a one-of-a-kind program to westman that offered intensive vocal training combined with challenging choreography.  These dances, created and taught by some of westman’s top dance teachers, were created with the goal of providing a venue for talented and committed ‘triple-threat’ performers to grow and develop.  The result: Mecca’s Pride of Westman!

Due to popular demand, Mecca’s performance program has expanded to included 2 all-girls groups for girls in grades 2+: Girls Aloud (grades 2-5) and Charisma (grades 9+), an all boys group (Boys Only) for boys grades 3-6, and 2 mixed groups: Sound Dymamix (grades 6-8 girls and boys grades 7 & 8 boys) and Pride of Westman.   Mecca’s Performance Troupe has entertained audiences at many events including: Music in the Parks, The Westman Dreams for Kids Children’s Fair, Earth Day, The Rural Form, the ARHA Service Recognition Banquet, the BRHA Gala and Tatayna’s Hope Benefit Concert to name just a few.

While the five groups learn their own songs and dances, they will also come together at vocal retreats at least twice a year to work on mass choral and performance numbers.  Regular classes run from Sept-April.  Retreats and tours take place in April & May.

Each member of Mecca’s Performance Troupe is required to attend Mecca’s theatre arts workshops, perform in the festival of the arts and take part in our spring performances.  Tours will also be organized for April/May.  The commitment to the program is for the full year.  Members of Mecca’s Performance Troupe are also invited to audition for Mecca’s community musicals, when roles are suitable.

“Pride” is an auditioned, high-energy group of young men and women - singers and dancers - in grades 9+ from across western Manitoba.  Members of this group travel from up to an hour Fridays from Sept-April to rehearse.  Boys are invited or selected through open audition.  Girls who are members of Charisma may audition to join this group.    After four months of intensive rehearsals with vocal director Kara Dixon and choreographer Kristen Yuel, the group is ready to provide a full program of entertainment to audiences of all ages.  Their season wraps up with a “Music in the Parks” performance and a school tour to Brandon elementary and middle schools.

Charisma is an all-girls group that is open to performers in grades 9+.  Audition is not necessary.  A variety of music and vocal styles allows each member of the group an opportunity to shine.  The group begins rehearsals in September and concludes in April.  Charisma performs at the Brandon Festival of the Arts, The Mecca Family Christmas Concert, the On Broadway Concert, and Music in the Parks.  They have also appeared a various benefit functions in Brandon.

Sound Dynamix is Mecca’s newest group.  Created for girls from grade 6-8 and boys in grade 7 & 8, this group meets Fridays from Sept-June.

Girls Aloud & Boys Only is where many triple-threat future stars  get their start!  These groups meet once a week September - April to sing, dance and act!   They perform in the Festival of the Arts and at The Children’s Fair.  Their year wraps up with Music in the Parks.
