Getting Started:

I am so excited to be working with so many amazing young girls this fall as our orphans in Annie.  It is an absolute delight for me to announce our Annie(s) will be Avery Praznik and Jessica Granger.  It is even more delightful for me to know that I will see those girls first thing Saturday morning in our 9:15 Girls Aloud class.  I am very excited for the energy and talent these two girls in grade 5 will bring to our class and certainly their roles as that red-headed and lovable orphan.

Throughout the weekend of auditions, we were amazed, inspired, impressed and moved to tears by the girls who came into the studio to share their time and talent.  It was clear how well so many had prepared and how much you all love these songs.  It was also demonstrated time and time again what a benefit it is to have performance experience.  I was so proud of every one of the kids I have worked with who auditioned - you were all GREAT!  I can see how much each of you has grown.  We could have easily triple or quadruple-cast the named orphans.  It is a reality of theatre that many wonderful, talented performers find their place in the chorus - but what a chorus it will be!!  And every one of you knows that I find a way for every young performer in our classes to have ‘their moment in the spotlight’ at our concerts or one of our many performances throughout the year.

I know you will all learn a lot this year as we rehearse for Annie and work together in class.  To see so many kids make the commitment to join the cast - kids I absolutely love and have worked with for years - is wonderful beyond words.  I am so looking forward to getting to know ALL of you better and to helping each one of you grow as, together with the production team, we create a show that will blow the roof off the WMCA!

I hope that those who did not make it onto the cast list or the pending list continue to sing, dance and perform and to look for opportunities to grow in your love of the arts.  It that is with us in class - wonderful!  If not, I hope our paths cross again.   (Registration continues Mon & Tues from 5-8.)

As I wrote in the Annie intro letter we all ‘make choices about the things/events/people we make time for in our lives (as busy as they are) and I'm very grateful that YOU will be part of the Mecca family this year!  I hope being with us brings as much joy to your life as it does to mine!” and to my family.  I’m sure that, like me, you are also enjoying an evening at home with the ones you love after a busy weekend.

Thanks to Katherine, Kaila, Monique, Susan and Susan who sat in and gave feedback as we made some difficult decisions.

Thank you parents for your support and kind words as we have worked through this process.   I value the trust you have placed in me as I’ve worked with your kids for the past two days.  It is difficult to disappoint kids I care about.  But I know that when the red curtain opens, we will have had a great time together! I am excited to see you in class and/or rehearsals!
